Ozark Cigar Box Guitar Music Festival
Press Release: 7/20/20
Ozark Cigar Box Guitar Music Festival
Benton County Art Stroll
Benton County Wine Stroll
With due regard to the safety and health of the residents and tourists who live and visit our area and with concern over the increasing number of COVID cases in Missouri, the organizers of the three events on August 1 (and 2), have made the tough decision to postpone the events to 2021.
This includes the Benton County Wine Stroll, the Ozark Cigar Box Guitar Music Festival and the Benton County Art Walk.
We are devastated to share this news with you. This year has been very challenging more so than previous years for tourism and we want to support and promote the Benton County businesses, wineries and breweries, musicians and artists within our communities, along with our state and beyond as we are faced with hardships relating to the current pandemic. However, we also want everyone to stay safe and healthy.
Benton County Tourism and Ryan and Julie Mackey (founders of the CBG Festival) will be exploring ways to provide a virtual music festival experience in place of the actual festival at its location this year. Additionally, the Benton County Art Walk committee is also looking into providing a virtual art competition in place of the actual event. Please stay tuned for more information.
We will continue to work hard to bring you the unique events you love in 2021. Thought it’s true that our August 2020 events will no longer take place in reality, we will continue to strive toward promoting tourism and helping the Benton County economy recovery from this pandemic.
If you are a vendor at these events or have purchased tickets, we will be contacting you in the near future to offer refunds or sending information about carrying over your fees to the following year. If you have sponsored any of these events, we do appreciate your support and will be contacting you also about issuing a refund or carrying your sponsorship to next year.
We look forward to a brighter future and want everyone to remain safe and healthy. For questions relating to the CBG Festival or Art Walk, please contact the Benton County Tourism & Recreation at email@example.com or 660-438-2090.
For questions relating to the Wine Stroll, please contact them through the Benton County Facebook page or the Benton County Community Foundation website.
2017 was the first annual Cigar Box Guitar Music Festival and it was a huge hit! So much so that the American Blues Scene rated this festival the #4 of the Top Five Blues Festivals in Missouri! 2018 and 2019 were even bigger and better!
This two-day family-friendly event will feature nationally-recognized musicians playing their hand-made instruments featuring all different genres of music! The music festival is located overlooking beautiful Lake of the Ozarks at the Drake Harbor outdoor amphitheater and will be held Saturday, August 1st 1-8pm and Sunday, August 2nd 11am-5pm (times subject to change).
Artists and musicians feature their homemade cigar box guitars, which are made of recyclable materials. As the name implies, the body is made of an empty cigar box. The head and neck can be made out of anything from broom handles to wooden slates or sticks and the actual body out of bedpans, skillets and anything in between. These cigar box guitars will be showcased for sale during the event. The musicians sell their creations starting at $50 and go up to around $500 on average.
International touring artists, nationally-recognized and amateur musicians will be playing live bluegrass, rock, country and blues music using their handmade cigar box guitars. Food and merchandise vendors will contribute to the festivities and there will be a Beer Garden and KCBS sanctioned BBQ Competition and Tasting Contest.
Ryan Mackey, owner of Moonshine Designs has been making the cigar box guitars for many years and sells them online. “You create this unique masterpiece with your own two hands”, Mackey says. Mackey is also the organizer of this event and says “bring your family, friends, lawn chairs and tents and join us for a one of the best music festivals in the Ozarks”. He anticipates the attendance around 1500 people for their second year due to the following of the Cigar Box Guitar enthusiasts and live music.
We’ve will have a smokin’ hot line-up this year, which will be announced once the schedule is finalized.
Come hungry, thirsty and ready to listen to LIVE MUSIC and be sure to bring your pop-up tent and lawn chairs because this is an open-air music festival!
