Off The Grid Road Tripping Around Truman Lake
Cabin fever has set in from being cooped up from self-isolation and it’s time for you to go for a road trip and cure your need for fresh air with sightseeing adventures around Truman Lake.
Truman Lake is centrally located in Missouri and is a short drive from all major cities in MO. This route will take you around Truman Lake, thru the Harry S Truman State Park and public use areas around the lake as well as across Truman Dam and to the Truman Visitor Center and Lost Valley Fish Hatchery (note: please check with each facility to see when they will be open as they are currently closed).
Warsaw is a great place to start your trip at Drake Harbor, located at 181 West Harrison Street (below the community building). Warsaw was named one of two 2020 Great Places to Visit in Missouri and you’ll see why between the beautiful downtown and the Drake Harbor recreational area with amazing views of the Osage Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks.
Be sure and visit any of the locally-owned antique malls, thrift stores and one-of-a-kind shops on Main Street. For a map of the unique shopping options – click here. Stop at the drive thru at Cosmic Cafe and bring your coffee or latte down to one of the seating benches or picnic tables at the harbor and just take in the fresh air and beautiful sights and sounds of the Ozarks.
Follow the map showing the Points of Interest for your ease and convenience. Note: The google map only goes as far as Little Tebo Creek so put in the locations 10, 11 and 12 to end at Shawnee Bluff Public Use Area (by Truman Dam). You will take the Dam Access Road and come out on Hwy 7 next to Eichler’s Lumber Company.
