Award Winning Downtown Infrastructure Improvements
The historic riverboat downtown of Warsaw is in the process of revitalizing its downtown and riverfront. Downtown buildings are restoring their facades to recreate the atmosphere of its 1800’s beginning.

Warsaw has completed Phase I and II of the downtown infrastructure replacement. This project won the 2002 Excellence in Redevelopment Award for Public Improvement. Sidewalks, curb and gutter, water mains and storm sewers were replaced along a four-block area of the Central Business District. Additionally, landscaping, brick accent borders along the sidewalks, mid-block crossings and replicate lighting was added. The light poles and globes are nearly identical to lighting that is reminiscent of the downtown during the 1920’s. The downtown design has incorporated pedestrian friendly features to make a visit in the downtown enjoyable. A carefree stroll through the downtown will take you by many quaint antique and gift shops. Soon each corner landscape will have vintage park benches that will enjoy a view of the downtown or nearby waterfront.

The new Drake Harbor Park and Recreation Area has been completed. This park is within walking distance of the downtown and provides a scenic view of the waterfront and downtown. The park includes a playground area, and the first section of the riverwalk that will eventually connect to the historic swinging bridge. Future amphitheater and additional Harbor boat parking are in the planning phase.

Please take the opportunity to visit the downtown. Its riverfront charm will lure you into coming back to see the continuing improvements being made in the area.
